Railway traction transformer is the core onboard power conversion component installed on electric locomotives, metro trains, subway vehicles and high-speed EMUs. It undertakes the key function of stepping down high-voltage grid electricity from overhead contact lines into rated low voltage for traction motors, auxiliary air conditioning, braking systems, lighting and all onboard electrical equipment. Different from conventional power grid transformers fixed in substations, traction transformers work under extremely harsh operating environments including continuous vibration, frequent shock load, wide ambient temperature fluctuation and uneven bump during vehicle running.
